The problem with Emo
The problem with emo is that, there is no problem with it, in the last couple of months emo has taken a really bashing from the press, parents and other rock bands but why?
Could it be the somewhat metroic rise of the genre, and the mainstream success of bands like My Chemical Romance, that has got people upset or could it be that boys everywhere are using their mums makeup to look like their idols or the songs lyrics about suicide and self harming (there not but that's the view of some people).
What ever the course people have split into two groups those who like emo and those who don't, but is it that simple?
The answer is no I like MCR but wouldn't say I like emo overall. (Something about a grown men screaming down a microphone about how shit his life is, despite having bestselling albums, millions of fans and being rich just puts me off the genre).
Lots of people blame emos gloomy look at the world for the rise in teenage self harming and suicides the fact is that emo has as much to do with that, as Heavy metal has to do with school shootings and church burning.
People who do self harm need help and look to music for that help ahead of their parents and friends as music never judges them or disapproves of the choose they make and its not the fort of the bands ether, as I'm sure that these people self harmed before they started listening to emo, but of course as pre bloody normal the media need a group to point the judging finger at and this time its emo.
In the end the parent don't want to or just plain can't force themselves to take some of the blame for how their kids turned out and as for the other rock bands it just the old green eyed monster raising its ugly head again.
What ever side of the fence you fall on with emo one thing is clear emo will a) Shine in it glory before crashing and disappearing or b) Like a well known battery powered bunny just keep going and going.
Peace and love to all
