I am SO excited!!! I'm planning our BIG trip for when he gets back from being soldier! We've decided to backpack the UK!!!! That's been a dream of mine since I was like... 5.
We're going to start out in London, go up to York, then spend Christmas in Edinburgh, head over for a pub crawl in Glasgow. Then we hop a ferry to Belfast, down to Galway, then to Limerick, down to Cork, and another pub crawl in Dublin! Then back over to Liverpool, then Manchester, down to Bath, and STONEHENGE! The history addict in me is about to OD already
I wish I could express how much joy this trip gives me, not only because I'm Scotch-Irish, but also because I've been in love with the UK for... ever. I hope to one day live and work there, doing anything! Not to mention my family tree research!
So if anyone has places or sites that they'd like to recommend, PLEASE do!

Thanks for the advice on the trains, I wasn't sure which way to go with since here in Italy it can be cheaper to go by the station instead of a pass.
And THANK YOU for a heads up about the Historical Society, I'll have to look up where to pick that up at <3 I am a HUGE history nut
I don't plan on carrying a purse when we go into cities, I'm way into cut resistant hidey things and metal wallets that I can clip onto my pants. Haha, and my pants will be tight enough to warn me if some little bastard is trying his/her luck at a razor blade to the bottom of the pocket. I recently got this iPod armband that actually fits my wallet AND iPod, so those will be close to me.
I can't believe I'm going to see places I saw in movies!!! Ok, well I see places like that a lot being here in Italy, but still, this will be in the UK!!!

Yeah, the old adage about politics and religion is quite true... especially while traveling. Forget the pocket knife if your going to the UK... they are bloody anal about them at the moment and even people going fishing are being harassed for having a scaling knife. If it has a locking mechanism at all... it's illegal there. Go figure... the police couldn't do anything about a lunatic driving all over the countryside with a shotgun hanging out his window because they are unarmed but they go out of their way to make criminals out of decent folks.
