Bear vs. Shark is fairly new kickass band from Equal Vision records. It is made up of Marc Paffi, Derek Kiesgen, Mike Muldoon, John Gaviglio and Ashley Horak. I got a chance to talk with bassist John Gaviglio about their new album Terrorhawk.

Check out the official website for Bear vs. Shark

Daniel Robert Epstein: Whats going on today anything good?

Recently Matt Damon has been working with such veteran actors as Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro and William Hurt. I wonder is Damon has any concept that in 20 years he will become one of these veteran actors who beats the percentages and does more good films than bad. His stellar work over the years has proved that and he even makes good popcorn flicks...

Penelope Spheeris made her bones flitting back and forth between big budget studio comedies such as Waynes World and Black Sheep to edgy independent documentaries, The Decline of Western Civilization series. Her latest film is The Kid & I, a low budget comedy written by and starring Tom Arnold. Arnold plays Bill Williams a down-and-out actor who is unexpectedly hired to write a True Lies-like...

Celebrity Poker Showdown is one of my favorite shows on TV. Not only did you get see celebrities like James Woods, Mekhi Phifer and Heather Graham really let down their hair but I now play a pretty good game of Texas Hold em as a result. A big part of my enjoyment and my skills comes from commentator and World Poker champion Phil Gordon who...

no hold em is a good game .. but sometimes guy should just play poker without it being a winner take all tournament ...

Phil Gordon does a good job as commentator though ...
serenity225:
I don't want to burst anyone's bubble but Gordon is an ass. I played in the WSOP main event in 06 and was co-sponsored by Full Tilt and Pokernews.com so I had access to pros for coaching and general conversation. While he's definetly a talented player he's a crybaby just as much so as Hellmuth. He's not volitile in the same way Mike Madusow or Tony G. are he's just flat out an angry dude.

Madusow and Tony G. tend to be putting on a show but not Phil. Once he's pissed he's pissy. I don't like the lumbering giant myself. One of my least favorite people in poker. Meeting and spending time around him blew it for me.

Every word I read in this article about him fawning over Dave for instance left a sour taste in my mouth because I know under his breath or in his head he's berating him, calling him an idiot, a homo, what have you.

Sorry for the rant. If you want to know who some really great guys and gals are I'll tell you my faves. Maybe not at the poker table but at the dinner table. They are:

1. Perry Friedman
2. Keith Sexton
3. Clonie Gowan
4. Mike Madusow
5. Berry Greenstein
6. Chris Ferguson
7. Jennifer Harmon
8. Sam Farha

Least faves:
1. Phil Gordon
2. Kathy whatthefuckisherwhinnyassedproblem Liebert
3. Cindy I'msofullof myself Violet
4. Hellmuth (that goes without saying)
5. Shawn Sheikan

None of the lists above are in any order really, other then like and don't care for. With all that that you don't care about being said I'll wrap with this...

Tommy Ramone and I were originally just supposed to chat about the DVD release of the documentary Punk: Attitude but we ended up chatting about a myriad of recent and future Ramones related issues.

Check out the official website for The Ramones

Daniel Robert Epstein: Hey Tommy, what are you up to?

Tommy Ramone: Ah, nothing much, just general day-to-day business.

DRE: What day-to-day business...

Funny, you actually asked the one question I've always wondered - if the Ramones were on good terms, especially now that two of them have passed on. Good to know that. Weird about being in love with the same girl.

I guess from the rumors I've heard I would have been with Joey. Wasn't he in love with Deborah Harry at one point? I was too, but then again I was a little kid at the time.

Craig Clevenger made a lot of the waves in the weird book genre with his first novel, The Contortionists Handbook. That book has developed a cult following and is being developed into a film by Donnie Darko creator Richard Kelly.

Clevenger has just released his second book, Dermaphoria, and it is about an amnesiac who wakes up in a prison cell. Upon his release he...

I worked with Craig for a couple years in Santa Barbara. A truly multi-talented individual. Been a fan ever since. Just a great guy and a fantastic writer. If I were you I would send Dermaphoria to your mom for X-mas! I was thrilled to see this pop up on SG.

Yes, screw yer TV; read Craig!

someguysteve:
I love his writing style, Dermaphoria especially. Even the updates on his site, craigclevenger.com, are entertaining. Sadly he hasn't come anywhere within 300 miles of me on his tour.

You haven't heard loud until you've heard God's jackbooted angels kicking down the door to the sky, ripping yours from its hinges and your house from its foundation. Angels don't knock or ask for paperwork. They cleave the biggest tree on your property down the middle, blow your fuses, smoke your telelvision, radio and phone lines and leave you for dead.--Dermaphoria

Few artists have reached the rarified position that Jim Lee finds himself in these day. He has become one of the best and most well known comic book artists in the field. Since he sold his company Wildstorm to DC Comics Lee has stepped away from the business side of things and done some amazing work on DCs most iconic characters. He drew the Batman:...

Jim Lee is one of the best. I would love for him to team up with Grant Morrison. You're damn right, DRE his stuff on Punisher War was so cool. Lest we forget his work with the Uncanny X-Men and X-Men.

Sebastian Cordero is a fairly new voice in cinema thats going to be making waves for years to come. His breakout film, Crnicas, has just been released on DVD. It stars John Leguizamo as Manolo Bonilla, a star reporter for a tabloid TV show, who is determined to unearth a serial killer in a small town in Ecuador.

I think his reputation is hurt by being on a really shitty show. I know it probably pays the bills, and I don't begrudge him the money, but, god damn, does that show suck ass.

There are just so many of these lame sitcoms featuring a fat, dopey guy with a hot wife, and I can't tell a damn bit of difference between them.

do u watch King of Queens?

Great interview. I love Patton.
