And so enough of politics. This is going to be all about work instead. To stave off the boredom I'll illustrate what I'm talking about with some pretty pictures.

I have, against the odds, had a very good week work wise. It's the first really good week I've had in a long time, thanks to the credit crunch.

One of the good things about lean times however, is that it galvanizes your mind and forces you to be very analytical about what you are doing, and how you can do better.

On this front, I have several plans in the pipeline. I'm having some things made at the moment, and not least, a sterling silver chess set. Hopefully I'll be able to market them well and sell a few. I also have arranged a small concession in a whiskey shop for a few whiskey related items.
Buying and selling is what I love to do- trading. I'm not, by nature, a retailer. The margins are much higher of course but so are the expenses. I've always figured I'd go in that direction at some stage in the future, but this slow patch is making me think hard about how to cast the net a little wider and tap in to that market now.

The retail market is about creating a sense of aspiration in your customers, and then fulfilling the aspiration you've created. That's not easy to do without a chunk of capital. It's about style, and ideas. I've come to realise that my little space at Portobello has a bit more retail opportunity than I had originally thought, but it's hard to do. Many people have gone bust by applying the best possible taste, taking themselves very seriously, and loosing the basic commercial opportunities which kept them going previously.
Mostly it's about space- clutter and class don't really go together.

In order to appeal to the widest possible audience you need to stock a rather wide range of goods, and creating a cohesive and appealing look with a massive jumble of styles and qualities is next to impossible.

So where am I? Still nowhere at all at the moment! Hatching plots, and writing rambling blogs that nobody in their right mind would find interesting!

I hope you liked the pictures at any rate wink

No, the nurse wasn't shite, my body is. It happens the same every time hon. And the nurses are always mortified and can't apologise enough!! Haha

Yes, I went to Asda today and it was way too fucking Christmassy and happy. Fucking Cliff singing his elderly heart out and me counting every penny as I went down each aisle. I still spent 45 and all I had for tea was a poxy salad. Why is it that Christmas makes every non-perfect family feel like shit? I feel like shit about the whole thing frown

And damn it dude, what the hell are you doing on this site before 8am on a Sunday morning?!?! It's just not right!!

Hope you're having a lovely weekend and you're keeping nice and warm unlike me. I'm fooking freezin!!

xx

I could have sworn I've already commented on this here blog too, where's it gone?!

I don't like seeing Saudi Arabia on a map like that, particularly smack bang in the middle of the picture - it makes me shudder. What a vile place. It brings back so many memories which I don't want to remember frown

Your pictures are really cool and I'm glad to hear that you had a successful week workwise hon, you deserve it smile

Where was that last picture taken? It's a stunning place! xx
