Hope

This happened to me a couple of days ago as I was walking down the street on my way to the supermarket. I wasn’t really paying attention to the world that surrounded me, just listening to my music, deep inside my own head sailing the ocean of my worries when she looked at me. I didn’t noticed her first, until I could feel something following me from the back, she was slow and her legs tried to move fast but to no avail. My first reaction was to just keep moving, I had been in one of those situations before and the only solution that had come to my mind was to just keep on walking, ignoring what was in front of me, I already had enough concerns in my life, besides I figured she would be gone by the time I came out of the store.

When I was done with the groceries I walked out, and to my surprise she was there, waiting for me with little hope in her eyes, just like mine. My mind was quickly filled with excuses, I didn’t have any room, I couldn’t afford it, and she must have heard of all that before so she walk away from me and just lay in the middle of the road. She just laid there, giving up. In that moment I realized she was like me, I too had long given up, just laying in the middle of a dusty road waiting for the moment a car would end my misery. I knew I had to make a choice, and I realized I was meant to take her with me, two broken souls should be together. As I walk towards her, she suddenly stood up and started to follow me, she didn’t really needed me to pick her up, she just needed to believe again and have faith that not everyone was going to just walk away. She followed me back home and now she is looking at me from under my desk, next to my other rescued dog and my two cats. It took her to give me hope again, that there was still something good inside of me that wanted to stay and do something for others, that’s what she is to me: hope.
