am utterly obsessed with food ... 
I'm sitting here eating a Magnum Mini Vice-Cream - Vodka & Cranberry Flavour and it is soooo yum. After the brunch I made mum for mothers day - potato & feta pancakes, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes - I am feeling pretty full.
Food for me is like in that movie Chocolat - it can be such a sensual thing, preparing it, mixing flavours, getting hot and sweaty in the kitchen, licking the spoon, creating something that tastes so good it drives people wild. Actually I'm not that creative with my cooking yet - hopefully I will be one day, and my cafe will rock

i, however, have only been able to accomplish a few baking techniques... but i know exactly what you mean when you speak of the preparation and total experience of cooking.
you make pavlova? you could be very useful around here.
you should also check out a film called 'La Grande Bouffet'.
not sure of its availabilty on DVD or video,worth hunting down though, its a classic.
