Ive decided that I hate the opportunistic panhandler guys...
Look, I'm a very nice guy - I always take the extra the food from the table at a meal out, & leave it for someone in need. Ive been traveling somewhere in the world, and Im happy to help out, buy some food, even give some $ (note: there's a 19 yr old boy in Nepal who would be happy to make this point - we bought he & his family 8 months worth of rice, and also paid $500 for a full year of his college education) - I'm really fucking nice...
So, when I go up to the guy who is sitting on the city sidewalk asking for change, and I offer to buy him a meal from any of the 3 vendors (hot dog, hallal kebobs, etc, and mr softee) he is parked right infront of, he thanks me & says "Im not hungry really, but thanks for offering" - well, dammit, I get mad. Really mad.
Do I have the right to be mad? I dunno...is it my job to determine what folks do with their $$? No. Do I feel moraly superior cuz I am not an alcoholic or other addict? No, but I knew better than to get involved with that shit when it was tempting me.
So, is food the only thing I should give? Or does $$ really make the world go round...?
Speak out, voice an opinoin, tell me I'm the best or I'm the worst, bring it on...
Um, just heard this one from Woddy Allen:
"what's black & white, black & white, black & white & black & white?"

There are extremes, but hunger really isn't as pressing an issue in a major metropolitan area as you may think. Simply put, it's not all that hard to find food these days...
Really, just because you have a full stomach doesn't mean that your needs are being even close to met though. There are many other needs that simply can't be met at the corner hot-dog stand.
I take it on a case by case basis, but normally my natural proclivity towards laziness causes me to just give them cash.
