I know that many, many people have said this before, but the situation makes me sad, so I thought I would throw my own two cents in.
I like the word unique, but I fear that it may no longer mean anything at all. Common usage may have destroyed what meaning it once had.
There was a time when unique meant "Being the only one of its kind." In theory it still does. If you want to say something is "unusual" or "special" or "extraordinary," there are already myriad words that mean that or something very close to it. For instance, you can use "unusual" or "special" or "extraordinary." You don't have to break a unique word like unique.
This is why we can't have good words.
