The lovely and talented PresidentNumber2 recently posted some pictures to the SGNY group, including one of me doing the Charleston on a bar:

Now, you may think I look pretty goofy, but I should point out that EVERYONE looks goofy doing the Charleston. I did a google image search to prove my point.

Holy crap these people are white.

These cats know what's down, daddy.

This is picture was shown in several places, demonstrating a bad way to do the Charleston. You see, when the woman is kicking back, the man should be stepping forward and vice versa. Were they to proceed to the next step, someone would be kneed in the groin.

Even children can do the Charleston correctly. Why not old-time silhouettes?

This is how you do the Charleston if you're really, really, REALLY gay, as the man pictured obviously is. Notice how restrained the woman's kick is, and how the man hardly steps forward - gently playing at kneeing her in the groin. Personally, I'm of the school of thought that when done correctly, the Charleston should be a hazard to anyone foolish enough to come within a few feet of it.

This cartoon from the cover of Life magazine shows what the Charleston is really all about - a whirlwind of knees and feet with no regard for anyone else on the dance floor.
