What a beautiful day! Yesterday felt like it went on forever, I wrote a character anaylsis paper on the Maltese Falcon, actually defending the character (and ethics) of Sam Spade. Thought I think my argument was too subtle for some in my course to see. It seems like the twins and at times AJ what everything to be black and white, clear, and aimed at some sort of traditional view of right and wrong. Spade is ethical/virtuous in the sense of the critique of the enlightenment, to read him as a womanizer is to miss the totality of his character. It isnt really an important argument, though it may have impact on the larger issue of the portrayal of masculinity in popular entertainment. I came to the realization that after May I really wont ever see Pamela again in any significant way. Our paths will geographically intersect, but our fates I think have been untwined. Our only communication has been for me to be an ear to hear her, she is going through some rough times; I think I would have been a good friend and support for her to have right now, but that is no longer my place, and the freedom that I enjoy as a result has been monumental. I am weaving some interesting plans for the rest of the year, though I honestly must ground myself for the rest of the month for everything to be possible.
Ina is going to Amsterdam next week to find a place, hopefully she will, and I will be able to crash there, just incase that doesn't happen I am going to make reservations at a hostel. Im not taking my computer, so I wont have to worry about that, but I was hoping to take my cameras, to get some footage to bring home to work with. Ina really is an amazing person; it is unfortunate that I treated her like crap for some time, but we have grown together over the years, and have been in touch since the summer of 1996, that is nearly 9 years we have known each other.
Eric was in town yesterday and we celebrated our second consecutive Valentines day as bachelors. Last year we went to the Suicide Girls Burlesque show, after which my car was stolen. A year ago today we found the car ourselves and happened across law enforcement at the same time. It really is an amazing and true story. Today I have memetics and my film studies course, collecting papers to grade today; it really is a beautiful day, time to clean my room and get ready to move my things...
