ps. EAT ME BITCHES!
The whole idea of "New Years Resolutions" makes me kind of ill. I mean aside from the fact that seemingly 99% of all people who make resolutions for change either a: break or b: forget their resolution mere weeks after, the idea of setting aside time once a year to make a conscious effort to improve yourself seems rather sad. Many years ago I was fed up with the whole process, and I decided that I wouldn't participate in the tradition anymore out of protest. My last resolution was to never make another new years resolution. Listen to the things people make resolutions about.. So often it's to eat better, be healthier, quit smoking, stop drinking, be more spiritual, read more, travel more, spend extra time with loved ones, spend more time with yourself, or any of the million other choices in that sea of THINGS YOU COULD ALREADY BE DOING! Why wait for one day a year to roll around to decide that you should improve something about yourself or your life that you've been aware of the previous 364 days, or longer? People always spew that romantic BS about living in the now, "Carpe Diem!" they say... but who and how many are actually doing that? A few I'm sure, but not many, and why? What are the goals you have for yourself? I mean the ultimate goals? It seems that when it all boils down to it, everyone obviously just wants to be happy. But you waste your time by waiting for big changes to happen saying "......Then I'll be Happy." People spend their whole lives waiting for that miraculous event that will probably never happen. Sure, some people win the lottery, or strike it rich, or whatever that dream of theirs is, but what about the rest who just keep plunking tokens into slot machines emptying out their buckets? Big realizations in happiness can be brought about through little changes you make to your every-day lives. So before you settle into your suburban daydream and put all your confidence into the idea that "One day when _____ happens, you'll be happy", why not take the time to do all those things you wish, and want, and hope to do, just in case your ______ never materializes? After all, it's the small changes that make the biggest difference. I guess the way I see it is it doesn't take being rich, or famous, or a world traveler to be happy.. all it takes is eliminating all the things you'll end up regretting not doing, while making your best effort to accomplish your goals. A friend of mine many years back said "It's better to regret having done something, than never doing it at all." Of course I take that quote with a grain of salt, but it rings true in a lot of different ways. Eliminating all those things you'll end up wishing you'd done, and putting your best effort fourth in such a way that even if you fail... even if you can't accomplish your goal, at least you tried, and at least it'll never be one of those things hanging over your head when you're 60 that you will have wished you tried. But even then, you still have an opportunity. I guess my point is what the fuck are you waiting for?
