This has been a weekend of fun, adventure, and living like a teenager.
Thursday, hung with friends who cooked a beautiful, elaborate feast. Then played wii and played board games till we were all ready to pass out. (side note: I want a wii like whoa. I have never actually desired to get a game console before but holy crap.)

Ever get to feeling that every making moment is going into routine maintenance? You wake up, perform some bodily maintenance. Go to work, financial maintenance. Come home, more bodily maintenance, maybe some emotional maintenance. In between, maintain the cats, the car, the clothes, the apartment...

Zen is learning that it is all maintainance and the maintainance can be enjoyable.

You haven't read Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates by Tom Robbins, have you? The main character has this thing against routine body maintenance. Your entry reminds me of him.
Got to hang out with Dear Old Dad yesterday, since traffic in NE portland was kinda awful. Went and ate German food, and then wandered around the attached delicatessen where I got some Lion Smooches. Sounds dangerous. And yet they're vegan gummi treats! No gelatin at all. Wacky.
Inevitably the conversation turned to Firefly, and I threw him a few quotes, to which his response...

Hey, do you wanna play isketch?
anja:
no idea. you can find random similar retailers online, but their websites are set up poorly and i'm confident that they do not have secure transactions.
I'm so contented right now. Once again I'm greeting fall with my usual confusion... "Wait, half the trees are half-naked! It's suddenly really cold and dark all the time! When did that happen?" But despite the sense of being just a bit off and catching up, I'm sort of relaxing into everything and rather enjoying it.
How's fall finding you so far?

I miss the boy. Hansel made me all misty-eyed last night for future missing. Gonna see LadyRay tonight, I'm gonna be missing her beautiful self soon too.
(sigh)
I reorganized the apartment today, and finally saw those neighbors who've been so noisy. The apartment looks awesome. Almost ready for a house-warming party.
The funny thing is, I wasn't expecting the noisemakers to be a Jack...

Yeah. I'll have a crown and hang out with the queen mother.

Maybe a terrier would be better behaved than the Jack Russell.
A room full of women screaming with joy and rolling on the floor with their legs pointing north and south... for the love of vaseline.
And yet, not a one of them is naked.
There's something wrong with this equation.

I used to think she was hot.

Dammit, cat woke me up. Now I gotta post myself back to sleep.
It's freaking strange. Suddenly so many things where I was just spinning my wheels as hard and as fast as I could, I'm finally gaining traction. It's a weird feeling after so long. Patience paying off, it seems.
I've been reading books that are blowing my mind again. I keep finding this...

I'll make a copy of that book list.
The book I'm reading right now is The Places in Between by Rory Stewart. He was in the British Army earlier in his life, and in 2003-04 he was serving as a diplomat in a remote area of Iraq, assigned to give out millions in aid money. The book I'm reading is about his time hiking across Afghanistan in 2002, just after the war had (well sort of) ended. it's funny, cuz he's said he thought the Afghan people were great and generous, but I'm about half way through it and they seem pretty hostile and narrow-minded to me so far! To be fair, he does get a lot of free boarding from strangers, from the "pillar of Islam" about charity, i.e. travellers are supposed to be put up for free by folks... and they do... but they still seem pretty mean-spirited in other ways (ex. treatment of dogs, which are considered low, dirty animals, not to be touched).

I see a bug in the house. Big, creepy bug. It takes me a good hour to get over the willies. Bleh.
I watched the first season of Battlestar Gallactica the other day, I'm kinda meh on it. Figured out why...they tend to make big setups with really weak payoffs and I don't find myself liking any of the characters. Everybody's kind of a bitch....

Hahaha. That might be true. Okay. You go in the video game box and I'll put E in a DVD box of 90's gangsta movies.
I think the best part of the inevitable bitchy sinuses come fall, is the point at which I sit down for a nap at 10AM and wake up at 2PM. Ahhhh....better.

The best part about getting older is that we get to take naps in the afternoon without getting
shit from anyone.

I have all kinds of coming and going cold symptoms right now. For instance, it's hard to tell if my throat is sore from cold symptoms or the horrible acidy burning earlier this week. Either way, I think it's time for a ibuprofen (+ I have Zicam Swabs)!
If the last few years have taught me anything, sometimes the worst case scenario can be a damn good thing, or at least no big deal after the initial shock wears off.

Well, hopefully with the imminent return of the Beatnik next week, we'll get to hang out a bit. It's long overdue!

Haha rad.
I really should go see Casino Royal while it is still in theatres.
My trick for zen dishes is to use as few of them as possible.
Meh, I need to save the cash for a new compy 5000.
