George Carlin has died! He passed away this morning at the age of 71 due to heart failure. He changed the face of entertainment and he'll be sorely missed! frown

here are some piccies! the first one's like 5 or 6 years old (yes i'm wearing cat ears miao!! ), the next one's from a month or two ago, and then the last two i took last week!


I'm going back to work on the 4th. i'm excited and terrified. i've got daycare lined up for Oz, i just want to meet the woman first. it's got me pretty stressed, but it's a good kind of stress i think. confused

i went to my friend's bridal shower yesterday. there were some fucking awesome vegan scones! they were so good i probably ate half the batch! tongue

Like Starbucks' Blueberry-Raspberry Scones
1 3/4 cups flour
3/4 cups quick oats
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp baking powder
a dash salt
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup margrine
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 soy/rice milk
1 cup frozen blueberries and/or raspberries
preheat over to 400 degrees (205 celcius) and grease cookie sheet
in a large bowl, combine flour, oats, b.soda, b.powder, and salt. add in sugar, marg. (softened), lemon juice and soymilk. mix until just combined. stir in berries last and do not overmix, or berry colour will bleed! drop dough into 6-7 circular clumps on cookie sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes or until lightly browned on top


last week i got really ill. i woke up with such extreme stomach pains i thought i'd accidentally poisoned myself. I had a headache, chills, fever, nausea, dry heaving, disorientation, and dizziness/weak knees. my friend came over and took care of me. that night, i got my period, and it all went away! i couldn't fucking believe it!! if i have to go through that once a month, i don't know what i'll do! surreal

i got three really old vegetarian cookbooks from the local book market the other day. when i got them home, i discovered one was really an "almost" vegetarian cookbook, since they kept calling for ingredients like worcestershire sauce, anchovies, chicken broth, bacon, and ham eeek
the woman who wrote it was clearly a moron!
the second one wasn't vegetarian either; it was actually vegan!! and get this: it was written in the 70s by a vegan hippy cult!! they even include a picture of their prophet in the intro. it's a fucking awesome book, and i love it! biggrin
the last book was actually a regular vegetarian book wink

i made some goddamned awesome vegan shepherd's pie yesterday. it's already half gone! miam miam miam! tongue

Vegetarian Shepherd's Pie
Step One:
4 large potatoes (or 6-8 small potatoes)
1 can of lentils
3-5 cloves garlic, crushed
water for cooking potatoes
3/4 cup soy milk
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 tsp dried basil (1 tbsp fresh)
wash and/or peel potatoes. put them in a pot with he garlic, lentils and water. cover and bring to a boil. reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes. drain well, then return them to the element for about one minute on medium heat to remove excess water. then mash.
heat soymilk and add to mash and beat until creamy. add seasonings and set aside
Step Two:
1 1/2 cup veggie ground
1 onion, chopped
1 cup mushrooms, chopped
3-4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tsp oil of choice
1 tbsp flour
2 tbsp ketchup (them more as topping if desired)
1/4 cup water
salt, pepper and basil to taste
1 can creamed corn
break apart veggie ground until crumbly (soak in warm water if necessary). saute onion, mushrooms and garlic in oil until golden. add veggie ground and stir for about 5 minutes. add flour and stir well. add ketchup, water and seasonings. place mixture in a deep 9" casserole dish, and pack down. layer the creamed corn on top of veggie ground mixture. top with potato mixture. spread ketchup or tomato sauce on top of potatoes if desired. preheat oven and bake at 350 degees (175 celcius) for 15 minutes or until browned
yields 6 servings

so i just got back from meeting the woman, Layla, who will be watching Oz for the summer. she was very sweet, and answered all the questions correctly! i now officially have daycare figured out for my baby (well for the next couple months anyway) tonguesmile

So glad you got daycare that you are happy with (or as happy as you can be) for the little Oz man. I swear, I grin from ear to ear every time I see his pic. I have to take a trip to meet you guys. Time frame on a new set from you? I know - I'm one to talk, right? As soon as all my weight is gone, I will be shooting my brains out (ok, that didn't sound right?!?!). Luv ya doll and miss chatting. Good luck with the work thing, its hard...but you will get through it. We are strong women, right and we have kids. Just remember this equation: strong woman children = unstoppable. I remind myself of this everyday! kiss
