So Valentine's day is being celebrated today, so I wanted to wish happy Valentine's Day to you all. Despite I live in Brazil and we don't celebrate it today.
Our Valentine's day is called here "Boyfriend's day" meaning both girlfriend/boyfriend and it's celebrated in June 12th, which is the eve of Saint Anthony's Day. Here, the saint is known for blessing newlyweds and for helping single people to find their soulmates. We have superstition rituals for women who want to find their loved ones. They make vows to Saint Anthony and keep his image upside-down in the water until they find their love.
The different date was created back in 1948 by an advertiser called João Doria, who worked for an advertising agency. One of the clients wanted to boost sales in june, which was the worst month of the year for commerce at the time. So, João Doria created the "Dia dos namorados", the "Boyfriend's day", a date to exchange gifts with your loved one. And since then it's celebrated in June 12th.
