The easiest DVR conversion would likely be making it into a Myth TV box...their WIkipedia page can be found here and a very good intro/how-to video can be found & downloaded at this page here. It would involve picking up an additional one, maybe two video cards but you may be able to shop around ebay, etc. to find a couple of matching models to fit the bill.

Ebay is all good. I wouldnt be nervous about bidding on something, youll do fine, just be sure its something you want and DONT be afraid to ask questions of a seller on an item you may want.
