In light of my last post honoring the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, I'll ask this question: Do you think we'll see the President sign a health care reform bill this year? Or more specifically, do you think we'll see the President sign a good, truly reformative health care bill this year? I'm all for health care reform, but I want something good that really addresses the rising costs and doesn't allow insurers to deny coverage or drop people altogether. But, considering how mangled the discussions have been about it, and all the misguided rage over it (on all sides), I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth it? The last thing I want to see is some watered down, ineffective bill for the sake of signing something.

That's not to say this whole debate can't be won, or that we can't create a health care system that fixes its current faults and builds on what it already does well. We all know the discussion has been politicized beyond belief (again, on all sides), but level heads need to prevail.

I have my doubts. I'm worried.

We need this, but it just doesn't seem to matter in the end. Bullshit just keeps getting fed to people, and in the end it just becomes a political crap fest.

I missed this blog until now or I would have commented sooner. I was in the hospital for two days last week.

I can't believe the lies and scare tactics about health care reform that the average, uninformed citizen is falling for. I'm afraid that whatever, if anything is done will be window dressing, not truly needed change. The special interests and their political allies have shown that they'll stop at nothing to keep the status quo.

I'd like to know why a system that's good enough for the rest of the civilized world is anathema to so many here. We supposedly voted for change. The election of a Black president, something I never thought would happen in my lifetime, demonstrated how fed up this country was with what was going on during the Bush administration. Now that we've elected him, we're resisting most of the things he wants to implement. Plus, he's become a lightening rod for all the haters out there that are bent on destroying Obama's presidency and Obama himself.

My "bottom line" prediction is that nothing meaningful will get done on health care or much else. Americans will experience more of the same and will continue to complain about the fact that nothing has cchanged. Sounds crazy, but that seems to be the nature of the beast.

On a personal note, I hope all is well in your life.

p.s. I'd love to get some info about the area you live in based on the criteria I mention in my current blog. I suspect that CT may be beyond my means, but i'd appreciate your input regardless.
