The honeymoon was delightful. I ate like a king, got sun in December, drank with friends old and new, and discovered that the best sleep is on a rocking boat.
And hey, did you ever notice how many mirrors the balcony rooms have? Just wanna say that big ass mirrors behind the bed (that continue up to the ceiling and down just about to mattress level) with 45 degree angle mirrors close to the right foot corner make for LOTS of pretty viewing angles from ever position that struck our fancy. Happy honeymoon indeed.
While in Nassau, the hubby and I went scuba diving. I had never done anything of the kind before. While he learned how when he was a kid, he never went scuba diving out of New York. He had never even been on a tropical vacation, so the fact that water is actually blue was a bit of a welcome surprise.
Scuba diving was definitely the life-changing experience of this vacation. It occurred to me that I use the word awesome too often when greeted with such a transformative hour of time (less that an hour really, the air won't last that long) that is truly awe-inspiring. I have no pictures, just memories of swimming around the wreck of a plane and through coal reefs with fish I have only ever seen in aquariums. taking time to take pictures may well have taken away from the free and beautiful feeling of this amazing exploration. Also got to play with a shark cage that the Mythbusters blew up, which made me a happy fangirl.
Of course, this was an experience of a lifetime. But being there 40 feet under the water looking over to a lionfish and brain coral, I knew - we knew - that this could only be the beginning.
We've already looked up the closest place to get scuba certification and will probably both be certified in the next few months. Then there's the decade to slowly assemble our own equipment.
Meanwhile, I kiss my new husband at midnight on New Years, the same way I've kissed him as by boyfriend or fiance for the past 6, but with a beautiful sense that we have a great thing going and good things coming.
What a trip.
I hope your Christmas and New Years were as terrific as mine.
Happy 2012 loves.
Love, love, love to you.
