I've been wondering as of late what the buzzword "patriot" truly means. It seems to me the word stands for anything or anyone the government wants you to follow without question or ridicule. As if by adding that term it raised that person or term to a pedestal of grandieur that is not deserved....for example... "hey kids eat your spinach, it's patriotic"...or "The Patriot Act" (what a load of crap that is)......does our governing body think that we are honestly that mindless that a word would blind us to what something truly stands for....What do all of you think about this?

the word seems to have really been bastardized... i guess i would say it ought to mean someone who loves their country. but in recent days it has been warped to cover up some very harsh stuff (like the patriot act) to make it seem loving, when it is the opposite. also, while patriot could mean loving your country, that shouldn't inherently include hating everyone else's.

Being Patriotic means doing what your govenment tells you to, in the name of an idealistic love for the land and people where you were born and raised and lived. It meanstruning a blind eye to the injustices against humanity that your govenment does everyday. It means not complaining when your rights are slowly taken away. It means taking the mass media at face value, or only criticizing it within the terms it allows. As far as I'm concerned it is an empty word used for political control completely severed from any positive connotations it ever had.
