okay, there are now 12 haiku in quenya, and they are on this web site which is still being built, so some of the pages, like the resource page are blank.
And I have a Fancy guestbook, that you don't have to be a member of anything to sign!

They didn't speak any Hebrew in "The Passion" that I could tell, and I work with Israelis
I can't vouch for the Aramaic, but knowing Spanish and Italian I picked up on most of the Latin pretty easily. It sounded about as natural as most movies, not free flowing, but believable I guess.

awesome site! and I must say i am amazed at your grasp of all things linguistic
and welntoad is right
I've been listening to CDs of Tolkein reading his own stuff, and his son reading the silmarillion stuff. Awesome. I love Luthien!!!
I'll have to write some haiku about Luthien disguisung herself as a giant bat, and Beren a werewolf.
Bound was fun last night. Fun to see everyone, however breifly.

I'm up to six or seven haiku now.

OKAY, here are translations of two of my haiku.

o my god. So I've been studying Quenya again (aka elvish), as everybody has probably noticed from my new avatar picture and the nonsense I've been posting.
I'm on this other site too called The Council of Elrond which is great if you're a super-duper tolkein geek like me, but I've been having culture shock!

Wow. it's amazing to hear about the devotion to a completely made up language and world.
I didn't read any Tolkien until a few months before the first movie in the trilogy came out. Only because another fantasy crazy friend of mine insisted I read the story before I see the movie's interpretation.
Which is a good thing. I feel personally, that a certain magic was lost in Tom Bombadil not appearing. I know there was an apparent homage in the 3rd part, but it wasn't a replacement.
If you want my personal tastes defined in a single made up world and series it's Frank Herbert's Dune series.
******
I wonder if the Christian element finds something of an ideal in the Elven civilisation. Everything is clean and pretty and magical, and everybody is beautiful and the lion sleeps next to the lamb and stuff like that.
I once discussed with a friend that the elves in certain worlds act almost like an Aryan super race and it would be interesting to see a movie or book that portrayed the elves as Nazis who really were smarter, prettier and better than the humans they wanted to...um..'cleanse ethnically'.
by the way, i'm not attacking or putting down anything you love about Tolkien or elves....I'm just rambling....

Hi ya doll,
Thanks so much for a great time last night and reminding me that i am only as old as i feel, and that if i could dance (without someone losing an eye or lauhging themselves into a coma) I COULD dance. It is always a pleasure hanging with the bad-assed tall girl with the killer sense of self, who although she can handle herself properly, she still allows me to be a rude jerk and run off the pesky long haired lameness plague.
As for learning Quenya, I think it is stellar that you are doing so. I mean, what if the world suffers a horrible event such as high radiation levels killing folks off or a meteor hits and the population is cut 80%. The remaining 20% all knew Quenya, and repopulated the earth making it the main language. Then Aliens arrive and speak highly of how beautiful our language is and decide to fix up the world for us. God forbid aliens arrive and we are still speaking english.....we would look like retards..."Yo alien dude, whats up? Hows it hanging? ect." It could happen, and we are lucky to be represented by peeps like you.
Ah well, i can dream, i think i like the 80% thing the best tho...
Much love to you and yours,

hello!
what's new?
Flux was fun last night except for the part about Welntaod getting really drunk at the end and falling down and getting a big scrape on his face-- see welntaod's journal for possible pics.
also I got tied to a st. andrews cross and beat a little. not hard enough definately. But it was fun.
and I danced a lot, yay!...

Thank you for the pic of your stiches, that kicks ass.
I have this thing about naturally occuring scars, i find them fascinating and truth be told on women i find them sexy.
Scars add character and i have a hard time trusting and or relating to someone who doesn't have any scars.
Congrats on the being beaten and the dancing. Sounds as if someone had a bitchin' good time indeed.

I'm geeking out on Tolkein again!!! yay!
I'm reading the Lays of Beleriand for the first time. Super cool, it has several versions of the story of the children of Hurin- (that's right! Hurin from the end of the fifth battle who says "the day will come again! [aura enteluva]" and kills 70 orcs with his axe before being carted of to Morgoth's stronghold where...

but seriously, I just want to thank both of you for such a great time. Nothing but fun when the four of us collide. I hope your head and body isn't hurting as much as me and the Taod.
