I've really been digging all the awesome Halloween blogs so I thought I'd share the first costume that really stood out to me (even if I was way too young to understand it lol)! @missy @rambo @lyxzen
My mom was a total party animal when I was growing up. I jammed her techno club mixes in my little purple boom box, stomped around the house in her stripper heels, & smeared her frosty lipstick all over my face. All her party friends were always at our house, so as you can imagine, there was never a dull moment, especially one Halloween when I was about 8.
My mom had her friend Tom (a tall, lanky, flamboyantly gay white dude) over at the house getting ready to go out. My grandparents were taking my sister & I trick or treating. I walked into her room to hug her goodbye & found her vogueing in the mirror in a naughty nun costume (EEK!) and Tom sitting on her bed looking ridiculous.
"So, you're a night table?" , I teased.
"A nightSTAND, honey." He laughed. "One night stand. Give it about 10 years, you'll understand."
I probably stared at him for 5 whole minutes. What could I possibly understand about a guy with his head poking out of a cardboard box littered with condoms, cigarettes, & fake pizza, topped off with a lamp shade? I obviously don't have a picture, but this is the closest one I could find! It's the first costume that really stood out to me & I always find myself talking about it this time of year. All hail Tom!
