My sister's roommate is a production manager for an events company in Chicago. On Saturday, he was in charge of the Eli's tent at the Taste. They bake a 2,000 pound cheesecake every year to celebrate their anniversary, and they have a celebrity cake cutter every year. This year's celebrity was Kenny Rogers, who also played a show at the Petrillo Music Shell. Andy, the roommate, was nice enough to get my sister and I a couple VIP badges for the cake cutting, then the all you can eat catered party with an open bar and reserved seats for the show.
Kenny Rogers was a big part of our childhood, as my dad would play his music often, so the sis and I had a great time. Kenny played all the hits, and was quite a jokester on the stage. The food was great and plentiful, and we had a great time.
Then I helped my sister move today after stopping at the Logan Square farmer's market for some grilled cornbread and organic chicken thighs. I bought a grain fed sirloin steak for dinner this week, and we will be doing some bbqing this week for the holiday.
It's good to be back in Chicago.
