Today was beautiful.
I spent the day with wonderful friends. Some of whom it has been ages since our last encounter.
Ko'alani is such a magical being. Magical seems like such a silly hippie word but honestly it's the best word to describe her. She is like a queen, a Goddess. It seems as though every where she goes there are chocolates and red wine in her wake.
We all went to Jahmila's 12th birthday party today. Jahmila's parents are Rastafarian (the very serious kind not the "I'm in it to justify the amount of ganja I smoke" kind). So of course the party was quite different than your everyday 12 year old girls party. But in so many ways the same.
It was so much fun to be surrounded by so many children. Jahnia (Jahmila's little brother) and I had a fun time. I would put him on my shoulders and gallop around and he would have to pull my dreads like reins to make me stop. So adorable. I love those kids. Their father Lion is a person very close to my heart, always. Their mother Jahkira is an amazing seamstress and designer for the Marley clothing line. I can't imagine growing up with such interesting and different parents. What it must be like to explain to all your friends at the age of 12 that your family does "drugs" as a part of their religious beliefs and that you and your parents have the same strange hair style for the same religious purposes.

The day ends with three women in the kitchen smoking ciggarettes, talking in whispers and giggling.
"It's so nice to see you here sitting at the kitchen table again" she says to me.
I just smile and bask in the overwhelming feeling of sisterly love.

Ko'alani the magical fairy princess from outer space.
