Today I started working for ACORN as a community organizer. It's an amazing organization.
Most non-profits have a bunch of young white people with degrees who came from middle to upper class families trying to help low income working class minorities. Usually these people have no idea how to relate to the people they are trying to help. The people of the comunity usually feel looked down on and pittied and therefore aren't very trusting or receptive.
ACORN is different. The people of the community are the people running the local ACORN chapters. They are the people lobbying, protesting, canvassing, and organizing change.
It is inspiring to see people doing things for themselves and their community. People really do want to change things if you show them how. I think most of the time people don't say anything because they don't know what to say or who to say it too, so they talk amongst themelves and sink deeper and deeper into resignation. ACORN helps show people how to impliment change and then lets them take the action. ACORN works to put the power back into the hands of the people.

Thats my rant for today.

I just recently realized that Comcast's On Demand has tons of different excersize shows available whenever I would like to watch them. This is exciting to me because without some sort of structure I don't excersize at all. If I have a gym to go to, or some sort of routine to follow I do well, otherwise I sit on my lazy ass and eat ice cream (ice cream will be the death of me).
Now I have all sorts of cheesy options to choose from. I can do bellydancing, hula dance, buns of steel, abs toning, pilates, or yoga. I usually choose yoga since it's what I seem to resinate with the most (I've been practicing yoga on and off for 3-4 years now).

ok I'm done bok

I'm proud of you for joining ACORN. Most people just sit around and say they are going to work for change, but never do. I personally been feeling like I HAVE to do something to change the world around me but I really don't know where to start. I have experienced so much of the darker sides of humanity this year that I've become somewhat depressed with everything. Again, I commend you on what you're doing and I hope I can find something similar to pour my time and passion into. You're a constant inspiration. Thanks.
