I managed to get three hours sleep last night. And I was cleaned up and dressed nicely and presentable when I showed up to work today.

The first day of my training went well. Hell of a lot of paperwork, getting fingerprinted (required for government work), and a few hours of having sections from the employee handbook read aloud to us, so that they can say yes we have been informed of all that.

I also managed to have one moment of brilliance, when the instructor asked if anyone could provide a definition of what the "index" of a book is.

"An index is a collection of the vital terms used in the book, sorted alphabetically and accompanied by page numbers for each place in which they are referenced."

To which, the instructor responded, "Wow. That's a good answer."

So, I haven't fucked up yet. And no attendance is required tomorrow, as they need time to process all those fingerprints before any of us new hires can be awarded the security clearance necessary to do our jobs.

But on wednesday, the practical instruction shall begin. Another chance to prove myself intelligent.

And that should be good for me.
