How I Spent My Summer Vacation

So, Friday night, the first, my brother, nephew, and I started the drive up to Pittsburgh. We stopped for a 2-hour nap on the way, and made it to my Dad's house late morning or early afternoon on Saturday. We were pooped, but we went to see War of the Worlds anyway. It was pretty good, but the ending spewed gargantuan chunks of vomit all over the place.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

"We apparently can't dramatize these bitches dying of an infection or the flu or something, so we'll just tell you that's what happened". whatever (that's a paraphrase).

Sunday, we went to the Big Butler County Fair (heh heh, big butt). I didn't have any cash, and they didn't take my plastic, so I just sorta wandered around with everybody. On the 4th, we went to the Allegheny River and did a bit of fishing. Then we had steaks, corn on the cob, and tater salad for dinner.

Throughout the weekend, we spent time working on my dad's pontoon boat. He had done some work on it, and now it wouldn't go into reverse. Finally, after fiddling with it for 2 days, we saw that the linkage was hitting another part before it could get all the way into reverse. We shortened the linkage, and voila! Good, because I really wanted to fish from the boat on our vacation.

Tuesday morning, 'round 11, we headed out toward Pymatuning State Park. Dad had reserved a 2-room suite at some motel. It was clean and everything, but pretty low budget. Eh, it had cable. We weren't in long enough for it to really matter much. We grabbed a late lunch/early dinner and headed to the "causeway", which is a 2-mile long dam/bridge across the lake. We fished until a bit after dark, and I caught 12 perch of varying sizes. After we got back to the motel, we walked a block up the street and had a couple beers (PBR for me) and shot some pool at Jerry's Corner Bar.

Wednesday morning, we went to Perkins Restaurant for breakfast. It used to be called Perkins Pancake Parlor, and we used to go there when we made annual trips to Pymatuning 25+ years ago. I had french toast with apricot syrup. After breakfast, we headed back to the motel, grabbed the boat, and headed to the launch. It was a bit overcast, and we got a few minutes of light rain, but other than that, it was a great day.

I caught 4 largemouth bass. Two I caught on a spinnerbait. The first time I'd ever caught anything on one of them. The other 2 I caught on a Mann's Baby 1-Minus lure. I had another that got off the hook just a foot from the boat. None of them were huge, but they were all a pretty nice size. It was really my day; none of the others came close to doing as well.

After we dropped the boat, we headed down to the Spillway Inn for a couple beers and more pool. I had a Yuengling draft, but it made me feel like a friggin' hot air balloon. So the next one was a Stroh's.

Thursday, we didn't take the boat out. We hiked back into a place we used to fish all the time. We called it "the railroad tracks" because it was only a couple dozen yards from... a railroad trestle. My dad brought in a decent largemouth. I brought in two on a Heddon Zara Spook. Again, the first time I had caught anything on this lure. We had dinner, then my dad and I grabbed a nap while my brother and nephew headed back to the causeway. After our nap, we joined the others on the causeway, where I caught a perch.

Awright, we were there Friday, too, but that's enough for now.

XO

That sounds like a nice vacation. Wish I could take one. The irony of my situation thought is that I have 3 weeks a year now that I've been at my job for 3 years - but I haven't got time to take a single day.

You change your name so much that I have to check your pics folder to make sure it's you. That's funny.
