i itch. this is not a metaphor. repeat. this is not a metaphor.
When I was in college, I took a class called Myth, Ritual, and Symbolism. One of the topics was metaphor, and we read a book called Metaphors We Live By (granted, this should be "Metaphors By Which We Live", but whatever). The premise of the book is that metaphor is not simply the means by which we express our understanding of things; it is the very means by which we understand things. I'm not sure I altogether buy it, but it is an interesting book.
We had to write a paper for that class on a metaphor we live by. I related emotional level to temperature. For instance, a "hot" member of the opposite sex is one that excites you; someone giving you the "cold" shoulder is showing you little emotion. I had a number of additional examples and felt it was a masterpiece of expository writing. And more importantly, it actually had me believing that perhaps we do understand things via metaphor. When I got it back, a comment on the paper just said "I don't think so" (or something to that effect). Holy fuck, he didn't even back up the comment with any anything!
I guess, all in all, it's just another brick in the wall.
Peace (and piece) y'all.

Dude, I totally have nothin' to do with Valentine's Day, but the afterward rocks. Today I raided Eckerd for 50% off candy. I got 4 1/2 lbs of Whitman and Russell Stover for like $20. I am all the day with my cock up.

Yeah ... did you see the movie The Corporation or read the book??? It is pretty fucked up .. a corporation has all the characterisitics of a psychopath .... and they talked about the origins of corporate personhood and how it has basically ruined the world. It is pretty scary shit ... and I don't scare easy ... I think reality is far scarier than 99.9% of the shit they make up.
I think that sucks about your paper!! Don't take it personal ... the entire educational system, save for a few brave souls, is comprised of those who want to stifle individual thought and originality.
Do you read Adbusters by any chance??? It is a great mag ...
Now I went and got all f'ed up and can't remember what else I came here to say ... so stop by and I'm sure I will remember!!!
