She: I'm lonely during the week, and I feel closed in on the weekends.
He: Yes. After work every night, I go home to stare at a tv or computer monitor.
She: Nothing's changing.
He: I know. Change from where we are is a very big step in any direction.
She: And I'm not sure that either of us wants it enough to make that change.
He: It's a big risk.
She (now crying): If you're really in love, you should be willing to take that risk.
He: I know.
She: Don't just come and hold me. We need to talk about this.
He: We can keep talking.
She: There's no romance!
He: We've been like good friends who have sex.
She chuckles a bit, then starts to cry again.
He: Don't mourn. Think of the fun year and a half we've had - Costa Rica, Asheville, ....
She: Look at all these freckles. They're really very ugly.
He: No they're not. They're very pretty. Boys like freckles.
She: It's hard to be alone.
He: You'll never be alone. I love you.
She: I love you, too.
So, it seems to be over. We kissed goodbye as she left for work this morning, and she said "I'll see you later." This time, I don't think either of us has any idea when later will come.

I have been on the rocks with my ex/girlfriend for months. There are no arguments, usually misunderstandings that end in her breaking it off. She calls me a few days later crying and wants to hang out. I haven't dated anyone else or even seriously looked, but I can't help felling that this will end sooner or later for good. relationships are a pain in the ass sometimes for sure. Everyone needs the lid to the proverbial pot. Where is your lid and where is mine? Who knows ?
