Today I started work on a new research project for the mayor's office concerning a land deal and the people behind it. Mostly it's rich folks fighting with other rich folks, but there is a lot of money at stake, so it'll be interesting to see what I come up with. One interesting thing I've learned so far: campaign contributions are supposed to be open records, but politicians are loathe to tell you who funds their campaigns. And even when they do tell you who their contributors are, it's usually some PAC or group that's funded by someone else, which means you have to do more digging. It's an ugly business folks, filled with ugly people.
