Doctors call Kate's progress slow and steady. To me it seems like she makes great improvements every day, and today was no exception.

During speech therapy, Daniella (who has a thick accent), teased Kate that for every container of yogurt she ate, Daniella would get one free. For some reason, Kate thought that was really funny and she came just a tad short of laughing out loud. She smiled ear to ear and the more Daniella talked, the more Kate smiled. Of course we cried. But it was INCREDIBLE to see that happy face!!!

This evening, I thought I'd try to get Kate to use her legs to move her wheelchair forward and backward. I took the foot rests off her chair and told her to push her feet against the floor to move the chair backward. She did! Her room is too small, so we went out into the hall. Not only did she get it to move backward, but she moved forward as well. She needs to get stronger to keep the chair continuously moving, but she mastered the motion immediately!
