Kate's weekend continued to be busy today. NMU friends Jamey and Beth visited for several hours before heading back for tomorrow's start of classes. Again, Kate reacted strongly to their presence: smiles, some sounds, still trying to jump out of the bed or wheelchair to drive back to Marquette with them.
In addition, visitors included Debby Casper, my cousin; Laura and Bob Reynolds, Kate's uncle's daughter and husband (who's she's travelled with on occasion); and my friends Steve and Anita Eichman. For the first four weeks after Kate's accident, the Eichmans travelled to wherever she was (four different hospitals in two states) to offer their love and support. I cannot imagine how much worse of a wreck I would be without them. Debby and Bob and Laura also made the long trek to Marquette from Milwaukee after Kate was first injured, and they, too, continue to offer their love and concern. I am SO grateful...I cannot possibly say how much.
At dinner tonight after the Eichmans visit, we ran into a longtime customer and friend of mine who is a teacher. She offered some really good ideas for me to do with Kate: testing, and hopefully arousing, her sense of smell with different fragrances; her sense of sight with lots of colors; and her sense of touch with a handheld massager. My bag is packed and I am ready to start ASAP tomorrow morning.
If anyone else has some good ideas....(Carese...you there?...you're a teacher...any thoughts????) please post them here.
Kate didn't eat much in therapy today, but she did clean off her lips again...a good sign that the brain is telling her what to do.
