Thursday will mark the third complete week that Kate has been at Sacred Heart. I marvel at her progress...so much so that occasionally I get antsy when every day isn't as eventful as the day before. I don't want to overlook ANY improvement...so I try my best to stay focused and remember that every day, every improvement, is a blessing.
Kate's regular speech therapist went on vacation today and Kate was a tad stubborn with her replacement. First, she fell asleep...then she wouldn't open her mouth for some applesauce. The therapist asked me to try...and Kate took 10 BITES...the previous record was 6!!!!! Her swallowing reflex is so good...but the problem appears to be with Kate making the connection to actually open her mouth....which would also explain why she is not talking much consistently. So I'm going to have to find a way to work on that.... Imagine...Kate having trouble talking?!?!?!?!? HUH?
Visitors today included Nick Bodette from NMU (the third day in a row...he has read to her, played music, talked, etc...) and Jim Stillman again, her high school psych teacher. Kate had a wonderful reaction to him...smiling, and looking really content when he spoke to her about having her in his class. Yesterday, Jenn/Firefly, an internet friend of Kate's, called. Kate's reaction to her was wonderful. She listened intently, took deep sighs and looked as if she would speak at any moment
