It's been a scant 14 days since Kate arrived at Sacred Heart. Today, her trach was removed. It's been almost 7 weeks since she was incubated. We marvel at the progress she has made even since coming here, and we know she's not done yet. Perhaps because she was adjusting to losing the trach, or because she didn't sleep as much last night as usual, but Kate was quiet today. Part of the reason for that is that there is a small air leak from the trach...that's normal...but it makes talking (or making sounds) just a little more difficult for a couple of days.
Late this afternoon Kate was visited by my cousin's wife, Jill Casper, and her daughter Erin, and again by big sis Melissa and her daughter Anna. She "spoke" (more like listened) to Jared on the phone while Melissa held his picture in front of Kate. She was intent on both the pic and Jared's voice.
Tomorrow...ICE CHIPS!!!

Sorry I'm not getting back to people or commenting on journals much anymore. I'm just not very talkative as of late. But everyone appreciates all the positive thoughts and prayers you are all saying for Katie. I thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart.
