Doctors started removing Kate from the ventilator today. So far she is up to the task. As the nurse said to me today when I feared Kate wouldn't be able to breathe on her own, the doctor wouldn't try if he wasn't confident that she was ready. Kate is also still fever-free and her liver enzymes continue to improve. I spent a great deal of time today pampering her: massaging her feet and hands with lotion, running my hands over her head and massaging her temples (she has a bad gash on the right side of her head over her ear), and playing CDs for her. It was a good day. When I left this evening, I told her I was going home but that I would be back tomorrow. When I said "I love you, Kate," Dave asked her to blink her eyes to say she loved me. SHE DID!!!!!! I have seen her eyes dart around under her eyelids, and I have seen her eyes half open....but I have never seen her blink her eyes! What can I say? I believe.
Here's to shitty-ness not getting us down.
