Too bad. It's some good shit. U probablyheard the Exploited "sex and violence." They just "Sex and violence" over and over again. It's a tight song though.

Random Thoughts

-Ever feel like you have a lot to say and no safe place to say it? Or that you want to say something, but are afraid of alienating your friends? I do sometimes. On occasions like that I tend to just avoid mentioning what's on my mind at all and go off in a different direction like posting song lyrics, movie clips, or...

Katie was in my dream a few weeks ago, it was pretty cool--she was really remembering things. You can tell her that if you want, not sure if she remembers us strange internet people...

It is not good to settle into a set of opinions. It is a mistake to put forth effort and obtain some understanding and then stop at that. At first putting forth great effort to be sure that you have grasped the basics, then practicing so that they may come to fruition is something that will never stop for your whole lifetime. Do not rely...

Today I was sucker punched by a terrible feeling. I want to run away. I don't know where to, and I don't know what I'd do, but I just feel like I want a "do over" in my life. Yes this is standard "quarter-life crisis bitching", but bear with me for a little bit. Or don't , your choice. This is mostly for me anyway....

Dude, at 25, you have all the time in the world. Trust me. I used to spend a lot of time worrying about how old 30 was until my father's funeral made me realize how young 62 is.

I can tell you all the stuff you probably already know... it's just a matter of figuring out what you want to do and then figuring out everything that's involved and the steps you need to get there. It's only a headfuck if you try to take in the whole thing at once. Like, if you want to be a brain surgeon, just for the sake of example, then thinking about everything you need to do to reach that last step will make you crazy. Realizing that all you have to do RIGHT NOW is "walk to the computer" as your first step in lookiing for schools in your area helps keep things focussed.

And if you're reading this, you're already AT the computer with a web browser open, so you're actually AHEAD of the game.

Most things in life are way easier than we make them on ourselves. Ruminate on this, grasshopper. I've read a lot of your journals and thought "Wow, that's an unhappy dude." Believe me, I don't blame you, and I've done way more than my share of venting myself. It's healthy. But you can risk becoming too focussed on what you don't dig about your situation, and not enough on what you do. That is, if you took some of the time you were going to spend ruminating on why you're unhappy and spent it doing some of the things that make you happy, you might enjoy yourself a bit more, and you might find that moving in the right direction for you is way easier than you think.

And one of the things that I've learned over my many tumultuous experiences in the past few years is that you have lots and lots of chances to change directions, so don't worry about it too much.

So chill, have some fun, and figure out what you can do next. Then just do it. smile You've probably got all the time you need.

And thanks for the kind words about my dad's passing. smile

You forgot to mention how silly some parts of this movie are. tongue

And honestly, in the ranking of Romero's Zombies, this one is third: Night, Day, Dawn, Land. biggrin

Dude! I saw that review, and I totally thought of you/our conversation. biggrin

Suspiria is my favorite of the Argento movies. Although....the mostly Iron Maiden sountrack of Phenomena is so good. (and the chimp saving the day at the end) But that's an entirely different post.

But yeah...Suspiria. Beautiful movie. And I actually like the story.(I'm an ex-ballerina, it hits close to home!) It has an almost fairytale quality to it. And the hallway scenes always stick out in my head. They just seemed to go on forever.

And please please please....please....don't tell me you had to hear about this amazing movie for the first time from scream? ugh. But I forgive you....you are a kid. wink

Hey hey - no worries on your Morrison complaint. I always find your opinions intriguing - and you stick by your guns. No harm no foul. smile

And I will gladly concede that Morrison drops the ball on long plots. His best stuff is definitely his maxi-series (stuff like The Filth). I was so lost at the end of his New X-Men run. I enjoyed each issue, as a stand alone mind trip, but I never GOT the whole arc.

I have Jacob's Ladder way down on my Netflix queue. I might up it.

Re: Gore and anti-heroes and stuff. It's funny that you brought up Preacher, because I totally never got into Preacher. I had read Goddess, the book Ennis did for Vertigo just about the same time. I pretty much dug it. I started to pick up Preacher too. (True Story: The first year Ennis started doing Preacher, he was at the Chicago Con. The book hadn't really hit HUGE yet, and he was just sitting at the Vertigo table. I walked right up, and got him to sign my copy of Preacher #1. It's even signed *to me.* It reads: "To Zac, Cheers! Garth Ennis.") So, anyway, I started to read it... and I never got into it. I think he has millions of great ideas, great characters, and has some real skill (dialogue, pacing etc). But his stuff is just sooooo over the top, that at times it feels repetitive and more about "out doing" himself than anything else. In fact, he often seems to - unintentionally - wander into self-parody territory. I think often his quality work suffers under his need to be violent and disgusting. I think Warren Ellis has this same fucking disease.

Its gonna be my first, but Missy's seen them a bunch or times. It'll be fun! You should pick up their album, Five Years Of Fireworks, you won't regret it!

Can you believe I've never seen Jacob's Ladder? blush

Heh - I hated "House" too (I don't have much of a taste for "cruel" horror, by which I mean films in which you're interested to the victims early on and then you just watch them suffer and die for the remainder of the movie with no hope and no redemption) but loved "Rejects".

That part where dude says "I am the Devil, and I am here to do the Devil's work"? Best evil moment I've seen on film in years.
signalnoise:
so, i have no desire to this movie. i'm just into *gory* stuff or *anti-hero* movies. they really bug the crap out of me. it's totally knee jerk i know, and i'll own up that it's myopic. so i can't dog anyone for *liking* this stuff. it just kinda grosses me out personally - and not just the gore.
