A Toast

past velvet ropes
and screaming lights
bass that envelopes
everything in sight
I met someone new
who's different from me
in the bathroom of a dance club.

I was invited home
but I tactfully declined
and went back out on the floor
and realized I missed my ride
so I stumbled around
and clung to the bar.

a toast to that person
who knew better than I
that an offer to go home
should be never denied
especially when the one who's asking
is the one who first got you inside
