I'm a copier and a paster:
i was leisurely sitting around the house at the farm yesterday when I decided to see when some of my credit card bills were due. No harm, just checking them and maybe even paying them so they would be taken care of. Once my account information was open, I noticed the nice little red font that displays when your account is negative in balance.
Uhhwhat the eff?! I decide to dig a little further to find out what went so terribly wrong. It wasnt just a little overdrawn, but $450 withdrawn. Upon research, I saw that the bank had cashed a post-dated rent check that was for February.
Mind you for a moment, that I am, yes, still in Australia and only had enough money in my account to cover the bills for January. All of the bills for February was to be covered by Brad working while hes here. I called the bank asking why a post-dated check was cashed and the reason? Because when you post-date a check, it actually doesnt mean that it cant be cashed prior to that date. Its up to the banks discretion.
So say you write me a check and say, Yo girl, I want to buy your laptop, but I wont have the funds until the 20th of January. Cool, no worries chick. But say I decide to be a complete asshole and accidentally want to cash it today. Guess what? I can. On top of that, there isnt a damn thing you can do about it.
That is what my landlord did. Since the bank can, in a way, choose to cash or not cash that check (what does the bank care?) my account is overdrawn and Im still owing for the remainder of Januarys bills.
Upon ringing the landlord to ask her if she can refund that money into my account and I will just have a new rent check written for her, she says yeahIm really sorry about that, but I dont think theres anything I can do,. I thought the idea I just suggested was a pretty good one. Sounded like a really easy solution and it would work out for the both of us.
Now, for the rest of the month, Ill be sitting in AussieWorld, with no moneyactually owing my bank funds, letting my hard earned great credit rating go down the toilet because I have no money to pay my credit card bills with.
Sick.
