Thank you. I enjoyed our chat too. I kind of had a feeling the desk wouldn't survive - but then it wasn't worthy to! Buy a solid core, smooth door and paint or stain it. Buy a couple of old (they're far more solid than the new ones) filing cabinets. Place door on cabinets. It's the perfect desk. For me, anyway. I have a couple of those old steel cabinets in the battleship gray.... So sturdy! So many people must have touched them - so much energy.... Office furniture stores have old ones usually. I don't know what you're using the desk for though - so I have no clue if this is at all helpful. If not, please pardon me for wasting your time. :o)
