I woke up early today and drove to the Porcupine Mountains. I planned a backpacking trip Brian and I are going to take over the first weekend after he gets here. I also got some backcountry maps while I was there and scoped out some interesting backpacking books.

While I was in the area, I went to Lake of the Clouds and hiked to some overlook - the highest point in the park. I didn't bother to go down to Presque Isle Park to see the waterfalls there. I figured I'd save that for a) another weekend of b) once he gets here.

Lake of the Clouds was very cool. Hiking through and camping up there will be fun. But what I'm most excited about is the Lake Superior trail. The slate rock along the lake and in Union Bay is gorgeous.

Two photos of a little guy I saw running along the side of the road on the way up. I also saw a white tail deer and a peregrine falcon but didn't get a chance to photograph either of them.
