I went and saw Hotel Rwanda tonight with FrozenSunshine and Kaskata.

It was excellent up until the end. It bothered me that it ended without talking about any of the current problems Rwanda is facing because of the genocide. Sure, they "officially" ended more than 10 years ago, but when 2,000 women who were raped during the genocide were tested for HIV in 1999, 80% tested positive who had not been sexually active before 1994; 264,000 children have lost at least one parent to AIDS; 1 in 5 children will die before their 5th birthday.

But it happened 10 years ago, so everything is kosher now. I don't know. I really thought it was an important film to be made and the acting was great. I just wish at the end - when they give you a history lesson on the screen - they mentioned something about how yes, nearly a million people died, but millions more are still suffering.

I've been wanting to see this film. I swear to you I barely remember there being any press at all about it when it was going on. Granted I was a kid and probably didnt pay much attention to the news anyway, but I certainly remember the OJ simpson trial, and a million people dying in a short span of time is far more important than OJ.
