What better topic for my journal-christening entry than my new tattoo? Yesterday I went and got a tattoo replication of traditional Norwegian rosemaling. It's very very small, got the pattern from a little magnet that my great aunt Lucille painted. I'll post pictures of both the magnet and the tatoo once it's healed enough to really look good. For those who don't have any clue what I'm talking about, which I'm guessing is probably pretty much anyone reading this, here's a website with a little info and some samples:
Rosemaling
I would love to get some of the more elaborate huge designs, but that'll have to wait until I'm independently weathly. This little tiny one that I got (it's about and inch and a half square, and it doesn't even cover the whole square, and it's a lot simpler than a lot of the larger samples) cost me $80. It doesn't really have a clearly defined outline or anything, and there is a lot of blending used in the painting, so it's pretty tough to do. But I absolutely love it!
For me, this is what tattoos are all about. It shouldn't be about picking some crap off of a wall and getting some random person to slap it on you. It should have meaning, it should be deeply personal and original. I have one tattoo artist and I would never go anywhere else. I'll have these for the rest of my life, and if they don't have meaning, what's the point?
Fuck diamonds. Tattoos are forever.
