My friend Max is pissing me off recently. We have been best friends since like 6th grade, and we have had our ups and downs, but recently he has been acting weird.
Every time this year that I have introduced him to some new or he introduces me to someone new, he gets all weird. If the person asks if we friends or something, he says no I hate Joe in an unsarcastic way or something else insulting towards me. Then he tells them stories about stupid thing I have done in the past. And then he tells them that he's going to get drunk this weekend and that I am not invited because I don't drink. This usually leds me into explaining myself. And then it goes down hill from there.
Now Max and I joke around with other and make fun of each other as friends often do, but I don't understand why he does this in front of strangers. When it's just Max and I, play along with him and have fun. But in front of strangers, I don't and it just leds to an akward scilence for everyone and Max usually comes off as an asshole or an idiot or both.
It's sad, because I like Max when he's not like this and when he's not moody, but recently he has been one of those two things all the time. I can't tell if he's jealous of me or what.
I am just about ready to say screw you and break off the friendship. It's getting to the point where it feels like he don't respect me or care about what I do.

my opinion: i think he's definitely doing it for his self-esteem. so that he feels above you. actually, i think low self-esteem could be the cause of most weird things people do! i'm sorry...
