The thing about having a virus is that it should remind us that human beings are not necessarily the top of the food chain. I was reading about HPV earlier - that's a scary virus, just in terms of prevalence alone. Vaccines exist, and have started to be given to kids (generally girls) in the West. I found myself wondering if rich nations could be responsible, now or in the future, for a kind of quiet genocide just by not funding the necessary vaccination programmes in, say, Africa.
