I find myself sitting here using an internet thesarus to look up other words for the term rape, so I can write about it here and not feel so disgusted. As it turns out, there aren't any other words that fit. That might be one of the most important things Valparaiso University has taught me about my own life. Own up to the past.

We are in a world of violence and apathy. Where natural human decency is forgotten, if it was ever in our heads to begin with. In this world, if there is a chance for someone's fears and insecurities to be played upon, it will be taken. Maybe this is what the concept of being human actually is; a craving to inflict harm (of any kind) towards another, regardless of the instance. It could be accidental, purposeful, regrettable...this is our human nature. Our 24/7 jobs with amazing insurance policies and a payroll of entertainment for our inner child. We're guaranteed to heal (if we allow ourselves that much), and if that isn't a type of insurance for the mind, I dont know what is.

I'm going to go on, and carry with me my reminders of my past, that I have been so graciously given.

And you will never see another person as sunny and gratified as I am, even if it doesn't always show on my face.
