For lack of anything better to write, I was going through my old journal in hopes of cannibalizing an entry for today. I noticed that I had several quotes written down. It is interesting that almost twenty years later, I cant remember reading many of the works that these are from, but they seem to still inspire me.

...that the mysteries which are not will someday give way to the great mystery Andre Breton

No one can be a great thinker who does not recognize, that as a thinker, it is his first duty to follow his intellect to whatever conclusion it may lead. J. S. Mill, On Liberty

The idea that things must have a beginning is really due to the poverty of our imagination. Bertrand Russell, On God and Religion Why I am not a Christian.

.He felt that institutions such as schools, churches, governments and political organizations of every sort, all tended to direct thought for ends other that the truth, for the perpetuation of their own functions, and for the control of the individual in the service of these functions. Robert Pirsig, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

Art by its very nature is elusive. Images based on the decisions of artists, are as much constructs and representations of reality as are analysis of such imagery. Meaning is not static or stable but rather continually emergent. Henry John Drewal

Music is the shortest way to expressing how little music has to do with the notes. The notes are physical, coarse-textured phenomena. But in its relationship to another note, a note can become something which finds an echo in the human emotions. Sergio Celibidache, conductor

I asked myself about the present: how wide it was; how deep it was; how much was mine to keep. Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse Five

Here in the mountains, I sharpen my pencils - both the one I write with in this book, and the one with which I draw my life. Frances Garneau Bates

If I desperately wanted to move back in with someone whom i had neglected emotionally and physically for years and to whom I was swearing I would do anything to change for, I would take my wet shoes off before walking through the house. I would bring the children home fed. I would start a load of laundry of their dirty clothes from the weekend they just spent with me. I would not dump the sand toys by the driveway, but put them away in the garage. I would not hand the person I supposedly loved a bag of toothbrushes and medicine, but carry it upstairs and put it away. I would, also, carry the toy bag upstairs and unpack it. I would thank the person for getting all these things together for me in the first place. I would, also, remember that my only job around the house used to be to take the trash out on Sunday, and being Sunday I would do it. But thats me. But you know Id probably get really FUCKING irritated by all of these things if I lived in the house and somebody else didn't do them, and then I 'd do them anyway keeping in mind the other person didn't get to live in the house.
