so i'm sitting here listening to charles mingus and realizing that jazz is the greatest music there is. i guess it comes with being an aging musician.
don't get me wrong, i still love rock/metal/punk/whatever. but it's getting to the point where so little of it is satisfying. i'm not a pissed off 16 y/o anymore. i've always valued musicianship ... so it seems even more appropriate that i'm gravitating towards jazz. because your average rock musician hasn't got shit on a jazz player. they can't speak with notes and tones and dynamic. it's just loud and angry and, well, lame. it's not speaking through music so much as it's shoving it down your throat. there's only so much one can do with overly distorted barre chords.
fuck, i AM getting old. last punk show i was at i remember thinking 'damn, it's almost too loud.'
shit.
