Good for you! It's always nice to rediscover your sense of purpose. And you know what? Even if later you decide that medicine is not what you want to do with the rest of your life, you will still have learned skills and knowledge that will be useful in whatever you DO decide to do. Go for it!

OH I so know about that kind of decision making. I just took a leave of absence from my job for a year after 14 years of doing at times totally pointless things. Its never too late to make radical changes or decisions in life. You have to remember that only the dead fish follow the stream .
