Last night I went to see The Pixies. They were awesome, of course. I had seen them before last fall in Amherst and while I was much closer that time and there were far fewer people there, I had a better view this time. Next Wednesday I'm planning on going to see Sleater-Kinney. Anyone interested?

Yesterday was also my first sewing class. Yes, I know, you are laughing at me. Go ahead. I'm the only guy in a class of about a dozen women. The instructor is a total nut job but she is also hilariously funny. I've learned all sorts of useful things so far, such as why women shop at The Gap. (First person to guess why gets a free beer). My goal is to be able to make my own clothing to wear when I go out. Goth and fetish clothing is so expensive! (I wonder if my instructor has ever worked with vinyl before.)

My first assignment is to buy a pattern and fabric and bring it to class next week. If you've ever looked through a pattern book, you've probably noticed that 95% of all the patterns are for women's clothing, 4% are costumes, and 1% are for men and children's clothing. This is a problem. I don't mind making clothing for women though, so if any ladies out there want a simple dress, skirt or something, send me your measurements, a pic or description of what style you want and what color/kind of material you like and I'll see if I can find an appropriate pattern and material and get to work. I suppose I should also be thinking about what outfit I'm going to make for "Crush" a week from Friday at ManRay.

I also might need to find a sewing machine. I was originally planning on using my roommate Margaret's, but that was before she stopped talking to me. My mother claims to have an old singer sewing machine, but I thought she had given that away years ago. I hope she didn't, they work really well and its probably worth a lot of money. I'm going to look to see if she still has it when I go home to NY this weekend. If not, does anyone out there have an old sewing machine they want to get rid of? I'll buy it from you.

Sleater-Kinney...sewing... this journal must sound a bit emasculating. To compensate I'm growing a beard. It might be more accurate to say that I simply haven't shaved since last Friday. So far it isn't looking so good. If it still looks like crap tomorrow evening, I might just shave it off.

It's funny, I was like "who is this snarky bastard" so I checked your journal and you didn't seem like a snarky bastard.

That story actually isn't the norm in my life, but you can feel free to check my journal whenever you want.

And girls who dance while holding pocketbooks (nice east cost term btw) make me sad too. smile
