Hello Everybody!

I have the best taste in music. Seriously, I fucking do. I like to tell myself that. As a conforming non-conformist, I have to look to others to tell me whats hot in the indie scene these days, so then I can go to Newbury Comics, and pick out an *awesome* selection which well impress the cute girl with the pierced nose or the shy one with the dyed hair. When she notices my selection - a carefully chosen mix of hott indie music and a spattering of local and unheard of bands to make me seem extra knowledgable, like I'm totally plugged into the scene - she'll comment on it, and I casually mention how I saw so-and-so in concert recently.

So, whats on rotation in my car right now (6-disk changer)?
- Interpol, "Antics"
Honestly, I haven't been into Interpol that long. I'm embarassed to say Antics is the first CD of theirs I've listened to. But Antics is super new, and Interpol is on the way up. It gives me indie cred. Unfortunately, it makes me fall asleep when I listen to it at work.
- Yeah Yeah Yeahs, "Fever to Tell"
My friend Rich loves this CD. "Tick" is his alarm clock song. The screaming. I can't get enough of the screaming. NY punk. I don't actually find it all that original - but maybe thats why I like it - it feels comfortable, like I've heard it before. If the only song you've heard is "Maps", check it out - that song is an anomaly on the album.
- Franz Ferdinand, "Franz Ferdinand"
ok, *everybody* knows this CD. and everybody seems to have an opinion on it. "The best thing to come out of Scotland since the Bay City Rollers", my brother says (although i know he stole that quote from like every review of them). Even though Margaret, teases me about it "its always better on holiday" she sings with a fake British accent, I think its great. Some pop cred here (they play it on the RADIO) but with indie roots.
- Le Tigre, "Le Tigre"
This is an old one (relatively speaking). What was I doing in 1999 that I missed this one? Yes, I know its a feminist album, built out of the ruins of the Riot Grrrl scene, but I don't care - these girls ROCK. Wonderful, danceable, pop/electronic songs, with awesome lyrics. I can listen to this one over and over again!
- Dresden Dolls, "The Dresden Dolls"
I've had this CD on rotation in my car since I bought it, back like in September I think (see my entry re when I went to see their show in RI). It still hasn't gotten old! I love it! Theres not a song on the CD I don't like. It gives me indie cred and local cred too, only the really cool people have even heard of them, Also really big at my job - everyone loves the Dresden Dolls there. I can't understand why my siblings don't like them.
- Air, "Moon Safari"
wtf, you say. Air? that doesn't fit in this group. but it does. it soo does. You need to have the chill, jazzy, electronic, prog throw back, ambient mix of this CD in their somewhere. Actually, I probably like their EP "Premier Symptomes" better - (its awesome for cruising through Central Square on a hot summer's day in the 1970s) - but I haven't had Moon Safari that long, and with all this great music here, I haven't gotten to listen it that much yet. I know it will grow on me.

Alternate (when I go to Philly)
- Atom and his Package, "A Society of People Named Elihu"
How do I describe Atom and His Package? I went to his last show in Philly last year. Great, *catchy* and very nerdy stuff. My friend Don uses him as his "defining band" wtf does that mean? Well, when you ask him, "What kind of music do you like?" he says, "You know, music like Atom and His Package" and he isn't even from Philly! Seriously, who SAYS that their favorite band is Atom and His Package? Don, who ARE you? lol

ok, I totally didn't mean to ramble on that long. What I *wanted* to talk about was my week and my plans for the weekend (yes! only thursday and I already kinda have plans). I was in a pretty bad mood Monday and Tuesday but then I went to a friend's (who I don't know very well) birthday pary and I danced danced danced the night away and it really cheered me up. Well, she had a friend who had a huge, 6-inch high mohawk that was dyed pink and purple (I think) and I took a pic of him, cause I knew my friend Rich was really into that. I didn't have any clue whether he was gay or not though, in fact, I thought he was straight, but Rich wanted me to ask for him anyways (after I showed him the pic). So I emailed my new bday friend, who btw, frequents ManRay, and I asked her. hehe, maybe a little bit rude but she wasn't the type to be offended and I was careful about it.

Anyways, it made me think..."hey, I haven't been to ManRay in a while." So my Rich and I got to talking, and we decided, totally, we are going to ManRay tomorrow. And I mentioned it to her in the email, and she was actually planning on going too. So, we are going to meet up there tomorrow. I bought Rich's old pair of leather pants ($35, what a deal, for new they are $150 and they are practically collector's items - Rich has worn them *everywhere*), and we talked about the rest of our outfits over a couple of dry vodka martinis. Maybe it was the alcohol, but Rich called up our friend Don (another coworker) and told him we are gonna bleach and dye my hair red (cause Don has experience with that). Maybe we'll listen to Atom and His Package while we do it.
