My posts here have dwindled to twice a year. I suspect this is due to the distractions of work, posting on Twitter, an anonymous blog where I write about the worlds of investment banking and venture capital, and some degree of boredom with the site.
I try to spend some time each week oogling reviewing and commenting on sets from hopefuls, but frankly, the site has become boring. Maybe it's my 6 year tenure here or perhaps it's simply that the CE boards, which once lured me in like a too short skirt, became consumed with self-described etiquette enforced by the self-appointed behavioral disciplinarians. The CE board closely mirrors behavior one might associate with the religious right, full of canon and precept and largely deprived of intellectual debate.
I look forward to the holiday season. Work winds down and I spend time looking out over the fresh snow on the golf course (until it melts and I can play) or (while at our home in London), jostling with Londoners and visitors alike for a seat in a warm coffee shop or a slot in the queue at Hamleys.
We will spend Christmas here at the house in Boulder County followed by a few days visiting relatives before flying to London to spend time with our friends in and around London. I am especially looking forward to an annual meal we have with friends from Marlow, Maidenhead, and Henley on Thames. We will feast on traditional English fare (roast duck) at a small hotel made famous by the writings of Izaak Walton Compleat Angler. If you ever get the chance to travel to the greater London area, I can recommend this hotel without reservation.
Before returning home, we will surprise my older daughter with a quick 2-day trip to Florence to view a special exhibit at the Galleria de' Academia.
So the next few weeks will be comfy and cozy, just like the storybooks. Coming on the heels of the worst 12 months in our firm's (and the entire investment banking and venture capital world) history.

it's very good of you to peruse the hopefuls' sets, very nice to hear, especially from someone who's been on here for so long. i wish i had joined long before i did...not quite sure why i didn't, but eh, what can i do.
