I went to bed as the sun was rising, and I woke up at sunset. It was the strangest thing! I don't know that I've done that before, or actually noticed. I love sunsets, the warm undertones of purple and orange red and yellow. As the sun was setting I went to walk my dog in the front yard and noticed something in the road. It is a side road, not some big highway, in front of my house. It was a kitten. A car had run over this kitten and had left it in the road to die..........and it wasn't dead yet. I put on gloves and went to get the kitty out of the road onto the grass. It's whimpers and image repeating in my mind still. One eyeball had burst completely out of its socket and the other eye was crying tears of blood. The chest heaved in and out, I sang to this animal and held it and pet her until she died. There was nothing else I could do. Blood all over my hands (on gloves of course) I walked back inside to wait for Dad to get home and bury this innocent being that never had a chance at life. A baby cat. I don't even like cats, as most of you know, I'm highly allergic to the beasts. But I wanted to give her a moment of kindness and sweetness as she died...didn't want her to be alone in her last moments.....wanted her to feel loved and safe in my arms. And then she was gone. I don't know why I'm writing about it, I guess I just needed to get it out because it has really upset me. The way people are so cruel to animals and heartless and careless. The way animals and people can die such excruciatingly painful and tortured deaths with mutilated bodies. I'd never seen an animal like this before...never so gruesome. Never held an animal as it died. I'm sorry I couldn't do anything for her. I couldn't do anything at all. I know now how it feels to really be helpless.
